Luke Friend was known for his famous dreadlocks as well as his singing on The X Factor.

But the musician looks dramatically different now to when he appeared on the ITV show back in 2013.

The 25-year-old from Devon has chopped off his locks, favouring a shorter mullet haircut these days.

He’s also got a hipster moustache, nose piercing and array of tattoos in photos in pics he recently shared with his 162,000 followers on Instagram.

And instead of the patterned shirts he used to wear on the show, the singer likes to wear vintage-inspired high waisted trousers, plain T-shirts and braces these days.

Baby faced Luke was just 17 when he auditioned for The X Factor with the song ‘Stand By Me’.

He got through to bootcamp and was mentored by Louis Walsh in the Boys category.

There were tense scenes in week six when Luke ended up in the bottom two with Sam Callahan.

But Luke was saved from the chop when Louis refused to vote and fellow judges Gary Barlow and Nicole Scherzinger voted to send Sam home.

The singer found himself in the bottom two again in both the quarter and the semi-finals, but scraped through when the result went to deadlock – proving he was a hit with the public.

In the finals, Luke performed a duet with Ellie Goulding where they sang her hit song ‘Anything Could Happen’.

Sadly, it wasn’t enough for him to win the competition and he finished in third place behind Nicholas McDonald and Sam Bailey, who won X Factor that year.

Although Luke didn’t get the X Factor crown, fans will be glad to know he is still making music and is currently signed to independent record label, Humble Angel Records.

He has also recently released an seven-track album called Watchtower with his alt-rock band Yellowbelly.

Last month, Luke was part of a star-studded War Child charity event which coincided with what would have been Beatle John Legend’s 81st birthday.

Other big names on the bill included actor Matt Lucas, presenter Fearne Cotton, fashion designer Pam Hogg and author Irvine Walsh.

Loved-up Luke with girlfriend Siobhan

In addition to his work with his band, Luke also toured the UK in 2019 as St Jimmy in the musical theatre version of Green Day’s American Idiot album.

That is how he met his girlfriend Siobhan O Driscoll, a performing arts graduate.

Sharing a sweet snap of him and Siobhan on Instagram, Luke wrote: “I really do love the bones of you, you’re an incredibly inspirational woman, my life wouldn’t be the same without you in it. You’re the most thoughtful, compassionate and caring human I’ve ever met.”
