Tony Wyn-Jones dead: Former Radio One DJ dies after a ‘long illness’

Former Radio One DJ Tony Wyn-Jones has died at the age of 77.

He was regarded as a “legend” of the DJ scene, and worked at the BBC from 1969 to 1973.

Tony died at his home in Neath, Wales following a long illness.

He was once a resident DJ at Swansea’s famous old Top Rank club before finding fame at the BBC.

After leaving the station, Tony continued his passion for DJing until he became ‘really ill’, his wife Glenys told Wales Online.

“He used to go around the holiday camps Djing with Radio 1 and whenever I could get time off I would go with him. It was exciting and and he met some big names in music like Cliff Richard, The Fortunes, Badfinger.

“Bonnie Tyler would say he was her favourite DJ ever.”

He is survived by wife-of-53 years Glenys and their three sons David, Andy and the late Johnathan – along with eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
