This book I highly recommend for anyone. Doesn’t matter if your relationship suffered an affair or not, it’s a good book to help understand how affairs happen.
.
A forewarning though, for those who have been though an affair, depending on where your recovery/healing journey is at, this book can be triggering. I know I had to put it down and pick it back up a couple times.
.
So what’s the deal with this book? And why am I recommending it?
.
As part of my healing process, I wanted to know “how” affairs happened in general (keyword is “in general”). This helps me separate how the actual affair in my marriage happened, which gave me emotional space to have a fuller understanding. When you know the chain of events that lead to an affair, you can work on those areas in your relationship prior to it developing into an affair. In which decreases the chance of this happening again, or happening for the first time.
.
The book also does a great job showing the different variety of affairs, not all affairs have the same seed. But the fruit of these seeds are all pretty similar. Feelings of hurt, betrayal, depression, anger, etc…
.
This could be a pretty dense book for some, however, I hope this recommendation is helpful for those seeking to understand the psychology of affairs, and find some stable ground to stand on when it feels like the entire world is crumbling. Kinda gives you a roadmap if you will, to the journey, from how it happened, to even the recovery journey.
