Tom Fletcher and Amy Dowden were in tears as they reflected on their ‘shock’ exit from Strictly Come Dancing.
The McFly singer appeared alongside his professional dance partner on Strictly: It Takes Two as they broke their silence following their ‘surprise’ exit from the BBC One show over the weekend.
Tom and Amy crashed out of the competition on Sunday night after losing in the dance off to Rhys Stephenson and his dance partner Nancy Xu, with fans calling it a ‘fix’ and claimed Tom had been undermarked by the judges.
Both Tom and Amy were visibly emotional as they spoke about their exit from the show, with the musician adding: “I’m only crying because I had the best time and I am so lucky to have done the show.”
The pair balled their eyes out as they were shown their best bits from their time on the show, as Tom warned there would be tears: “Don’t be nice to me. I will cry and when I start crying, I won’t stop,” he told host Rylan Clark.
“The fact we got to dance twice to this song, it was actually quite special and leaving on this dance – one that meant something to me – that was kind of perfect,” he added.
Tom explained how he was nervous before the show on Saturday because of his personal connection to the dance.
“You don’t want to let them down, and obviously it’s Les Mis and everyone loves Les Mis, it’s an amazing song so you know there’s things like that. But you try to put it to one side,” he added.
After his exit from the show, Tom confessed he had “the best time” on the BBC show and praised dancer Amy.
He told host Tess Daly: “Honestly I’ve had the best time, I’ve loved every second of it. I’ve made the best friend in Amy, you’ve been amazing thank you so much for teaching me how to dance.
“I know it was a struggle at times. It’s an amazing show, everyone that works on it, all of you guys have been amazing, I’ve loved getting to know you. Thank you so much, it’s been the best experience and I don’t regret a single minute of it, so thank you everyone so much. I’m gutted to leave.”
“I really wasn’t ready for this. I’ve loved every single second from the bottom of my heart,” Amy added.
“Who gets to say they got to go on tour with McFly?! Tom has given his all, and he is so humble, so genuine, so talented. The whole Fletcher family, they welcomed me in with opened arms and honestly I couldn’t have wished for a better time.”
