Strictly Come Dancing star Adam Peaty is this year’s resident Olympian, with many fans going wild for his athletic physique.

The swimmer won gold at the Tokyo Olympics earlier this year, and is an eight-time World Champion, a sixteen-time European Champion and a three-time Commonwealth Champion.

Six foot three and particularly physiologically adapted to swimming breaststroke, Adam is often compared to Michael Phelps, whose talent is helped by the fact his body produces half the usual amount of lactic acid.

Similarly, Adam is hyper-mobile and has turned-out knees and particularly long arms which he admits give him an advantage in the water.

He told the Daily Mail: “Most of the top swimmers will probably have a stroke rate of around 55 (per minute).

“My perfect zone is 58. I think it’s because I can bring my legs through faster. The shin gives me that little bit more flexibility.

“In sport a massive amount is to do with genetics. Obviously [Michael] Phelps has the huge wingspan. I’ve also got massive hands.”

Adam undergoes a gruelling fitness regime of 40 hours in the gym a week, and a diet of a whopping 6,000 calories.

But he’s previously admitted he would likely adopt a more plant-based diet were he not an Olympian, and he did give veganism a go in 2018.

Adam, 26, explained to JOE that he eventually quit because he lost too much muscle mass.

“It’s hard to understand how much protein you need. For me, I need meat to get enough protein,” he said.

“It’s a hard diet to adjust to. It’s just too hard with the amount of muscle I have to sustain. It could just come down to education, or not knowing what I was consuming.

“I’m a big guy so I do need a lot of protein. Sometimes I will swap meat for a vegetarian option – I think it’s important to branch out and explore different options.”

Adam is paired with Katya Jones on this year’s Strictly, and their close bond has come under scrutiny after some viewers were convinced Adam puckered up at the end of one routine where their faces were almost touching.

But the athlete firmly denied this was the case.

He has been with his girlfriend Eirianedd Munro for almost two years and they share 13-month-old son George-Anderson.

Adam wrote an irritated post on social media following the speculation about the “near kiss”.

“My favourite dance so far. Thank you to everyone who has sent supporting messages! I loved it,” he tweeted.

“To everyone who wants to see what they want, your comments have real life consequences.

“I will not be overcome or lowered by your gossip. Protect your energy.”

He also told Zoe Ball on Radio 2 that they were acting as part of their performance and simply trying to do the dance justice.

“It’s about being believable as well. You don’t want to do a dance like that and not do it justice because you haven’t switched on right at the end,” he said.

“So it’s being believable and that’s what some people get carried away with. But hey ho, that’s life.”

Eirianedd’s reaction was more light-hearted as she posted a hilarious video on TikTok, using the trending sound of a whining baby and scrunching up her face as if she was crying and wailing.

Above the clip, she wrote: “Watching your boyfriend almost kiss another woman on live tv… Finding out 10 million people also watched it live.”

Eiri had previously used the same sound to show off about her relationship with Adam, posting another video in which she joked about his increase in fans thanks to Strictly.

Sharing an image of him in his swimming trunks, Eiri was seen laughing as she wrote: “Everyone thirsting over my man cause he’s so hot… he’s my man!”

But the artist has now been forced to turn off comments on her social media accounts because of unwanted “thinkpieces” likely from Strictly fans giving their two cents on the drama.

She recently admitted she felt like the world was against her, and took a brief break from social media because of the abusive comments.

“I have been receiving a lot of hate on the internet – people saying really horrible stuff. I am trying to lay it to rest now as I am tired,” said the young mum.

In a new TikTok video, she added how grateful she is to people who have supported her.

“I want to say thank you to everyone. It makes me a bit emotional. To everyone that has been really nice to me. Because last week was a lot,” she told her followers.

“Even when it’s a thousand nice comments and one mean one, it’s so easy to feel like the world is against you and it did feel like that for a while.

“I then had a reality check and I remembered that I am not that important. But you guys made me feel so much better, those that were checking up on me and those that were commenting. Thank you.”

She then added light-heartedly: “You saved my life.”
