Move over Samantha Jones – Kim is all about playing a character named Sophie these days. The iconic actress will voice the narrator of upcoming series How I Met Your Father.
Kim Cattrall has been cast as the narrating mother of upcoming comedy series How I Met Your Father – playing an older version of a character played by Hilary Duff.
The legendary 65-year-old British actress has joined the cast of the show – which itself is a spin-off of the hit series How I Met Your Mother which aired from 2005 to 2014.
Kim will lend her voice to the series as the older version of 34-year-old Hilary’s character, Sophie, who is explaining the story of how she met and fell in love with their father.
The involvement of Kim in the upcoming series has thrilled lead star Hilary – who took to Instagram to express her excitement.
Sharing a photograph of herself posing with Kim, Hilary wrote: “When @kimcattrall said yes I screamed. Now can we please get a better pic than this one I dug up from the deep web @himyfonhulu.”
While Kim herself shared a post on Instagram highlighting her casting along with the statement: “So thrilled to be joining the cast of How I Met Your Father.”
Reacting on Kim’s feed, Hilary gushed: “Ahhhh we welcome you with the most excitement,” alongside hands to the sky emojis.
Deadline broke the news of the casting, reporting: “Cattrall will play the future version of Hilary Duff’s character Sophie, who is telling her son the story of how she met his father, much like Josh Radnor (and Bob Saget’s) Ted Mosby did in the original series.”
The report continued: “Sophie’s story will transport audiences back to the year 2021 where she and her close-knit group of friends – Jesse (Chris Lowell), Valentina (Francia Raisa), Charlie (Tom Ainsley), Ellen (Tien Tran), and Sid (Suraj Sharma) – are in the midst of figuring out who they are, what they want out of life, and how to fall in love in the age of dating apps and limitless options.”
How I Met Your Father has been in development since How I Met Your Mother ended in 2014 – and finally started moving forward this year.
Hilary previously explained her excitement to be involved in the show.
She said: “I’ve been incredibly lucky in my career to play some wonderful characters and I’m looking forward to taking on the role of Sophie.
“As a huge fan of How I Met Your Mother, I’m honored and even a little nervous that Carter and Craig would trust me with the sequel of their baby.”
Diehard fans of the original series have reacted to the spin-off fans negatively, however.
Taking to Twitter, one person said: “Ugh… How I met your father? REALLY? … REALLY?! Ugh…”
But another, new to the franchise fan, tweeted: “Isn’t it funny that I just started to watch HIMYM yesterday (and very much enjoying it) then this happen! Bless the upcoming spin-off!”
