While there’s no denying that it feels amazing to receive unconditional love from another human, it will never be a substitution for the love you should feel for yourself. In fact, someone else loving you should just be an added bonus. When people ask me about what it takes to have a successful relationship, I cannot emphasize enough the importance of confidence and self-love. Here are a few reasons why these things are IMPERATIVE for a successful, lasting relationship: • If you don’t love yourself first, you will have a hard time attracting someone who will selflessly love you, and you will never be able to demand your true worth. • Until you truly hold yourself in high regard, you will most likely settle for bullshit, struggle with boundaries, and wonder why everything is so difficult. • Even if you happen to land an awesome human while still lacking your own self-love, that relationship may not be built on a solid foundation. I’ve seen the potential for great relationships be destroyed over insecurities and a lack of self-love. Either too much pressure is put on the other person to fill the void where self-love should be, or self-sabotage occurs. Humans have a funny way of subconsciously meddling with their own happiness when they don’t feel they truly deserve it. •

My advice moving forward? Focus on yourself first! Work on your confidence, discover your self-worth, and watch things fall into place! And if you’re already in a relationship, it’s never too late to starting loving yourself – it will not only make a huge difference for you, but for your partner as well ❤️
