Kaiser Chiefs star Ricky Wilson has dismissed any chance of appearing on a future series of I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here.

The 43-year-old singer-songwriter had previously been linked with taking on the tough contest, but admits that he “wouldn’t do anything which meant I was getting judged”.

The former mentor on talent show The Voice gasped: “Oh God no, I wouldn’t do I’m A Celebrity,” when asked by The Mirror what the chances were of him taking on trials in either the Welsh castle or the Australian jungle.

He laughed: “The thing is I’ve been on TV as a judge and if I went on and they were saying you were s*** I’d say f*** off.”

He continued: “I wouldn’t do I’m A Celeb, Masked Singer or anything – I’m too competitive.”

The Ruby singer did say however that he’d be up for a stint on a soap such as EastEnders.

“If they asked me to go and stand at the bar at the Queen Vic, yeah I could do that,” he confessed. “No-one’s judging me and saying I’ll give that lean a seven out of 10.”

Thankfully for fans of his music any such appearance wouldn’t mean bringing an end to his popular indie rock group.

Ricky revealed he still enjoys the company of his fellow bandmates after over 20 years together and said not being in a band “just seems pointless”.

“Even if we have arguments and fall out there’d be no point stopping as we enjoy it so much. So, we will keep going.”

While the previous chart-toppers haven’t released an album since Duck in 2019, Ricky said they had been in the studio recording with Nile Rodgers just last week and revealed: “I don’t see us stopping anytime soon.”

The front man was speaking as part Three Mobile’s campaign to repurpose and transform mobile phone boxes as Black Friday looms.

He was asked to return to his artistic roots alongside paper artists and illustrators Andy Singleton and Annemarieke Kloosterhof to produce a sculpture made entirely from empty mobile phone boxes and packaging.

For his design he created a nearly one-metre high replica of his dog.

He revealed he thought of the idea after taking his own spin on the brief which was to show what connectivity means to you.

Ricky, who studied art at university, said: “What I found about my dog was that if I post a pic of me on Instagram I’ll get like a thousand likes, but if i post a pic of my dog I’ll get 10,000 likes so me and my dog that’s even better. People love a dog.

“I did my dog because he has connected me to lots of people. I’ve made lots of friends on the internet because they’re more interested in my dog than me.

“I’ve got WhatsApp groups to do with dog walking and they’re more interesting than the ones to do with the band.

“So it does represent that for me and also I can picture him when i close my eyes so i knew i could do it.”

According to research, 90% of Brits hang onto old smartphone boxes for more than three months after buying a new device, so the aim was to show other ways you can avoid unnecessary clutter.

Ricky added he was pleased with his creation and said: “You can walk into a room with nothing but a pile of phone boxes and come out with something that makes you smile, or is worth something, or you can give to a friend or anything. It gives it a new lease of life.”

Ricky Wilson and Three UK are inspiring the nation to get creative with their old smartphone boxes this Black Friday. To see Ricky’s design, with the rest of these amazing paper sculptures in detail and for a chance of winning one, visit @ThreeUK on Instagram.
