In every relationship, there will be times where one person leans in for a little extra support, their struggles (or success!) take up a little extra time and attention, or someone has to pick up some extra slack for a short period of time. Even in the greatest relationships, nothing is perfect, and things aren’t always 100% “even”. What does matter, though, is that both people meet each other halfway in the EFFORT department. This can look like both people consistently choosing each other, prioritizing each other, communicating and working through the hard conversations, and committing to personal growth as well as the growth of the relationship. However, if your significant other refuses to put in the effort and do the work it takes to grow as an individual as a couple, it’s important to remember that you can’t (and shouldn’t!) carry the weight of that all on your own. It’s impossible for one person to put in all the effort, do all the work, or try to overcompensate with vulnerability. It will never make up for the areas your SO falls short, and all that leads to is resentment and avoidance of the real issue at hand. Remember: your needs are valid and you deserve someone who is willing to go the extra mile for you, consistently ❤️
