EVOLOVE. Love spelt backwards and forward.

Creating a safe world for our future generations requires each one of us to take responsibility – NOW.
⠀⠀
Oppression. This injustice, unfair, and cruel use of power to control another person or group of people has to be stopped. This includes bullying, discrimination and other forms of victimization by the way!
⠀⠀
I’m not one for voicing my personal opinions regarding social-political issues through social media because I rather have these conversations face to face. So why start now?
⠀⠀
I watched a man’s neck being crushed because of his skin color. I heard a grown man call out for his ‘momma’ as he begged to breathe. This crushed my soul. ⠀⠀
Being a mother – a south Asian woman – a minority – a HUMAN, it’s time to speak up. I’ve gotta do the work on a deeper level, and a wider scale so that my daughters and our children – can live in a more EVOLOVED world. A more HUMANE world.

I’m committing to doing this HEART WORK by:
⠀⠀
▫️Reflecting on my own biases, stereotypes and problematic engrained beliefs.
▫️Educating myself on systematic oppression not only by reading, listening and watching – but by stepping into the oppressed world and being part of their everyday life.
▫️Putting my pride and fear to the side and listen, accept feedback and apologize when I get it wrong.
▫️Stop saying “I’m not racist”, and start being anti-racist.
▫️Standing up for black people (and brown and white) when I witness oppression in my own close circle, and let my voice be heard even when it feels shaky.
▫️Taking ownership for how my own inherent privilege has served me.
▫️Teaching my 3-year-old the acceptance of children and people from all walks of life.
▫️Making a commitment to learning, unlearning and growing through this lifelong work, because nothing is ever complete.

Love backwards and forwards is a reminder to value everything from the past and what’s to come in the future. It’s part of our evolution process.

Sometimes the things that feel most uncomfortable are the things that move us forward.
⠀⠀
Tell me how you gonna take responsibility to bring about the lasting change we so desperately need.
