Every relationship seems to follow the same path. You first start out head over heels in love and there is nothing that person can do wrong. There is such an emotional high and you don’t ever want it to stop. ⁣

Then, things start to cool off a little bit. The flaws start to come through, but you keep on loving them. After that, most people take the next step and become engaged. The high emotions come back again and usually carry you into the first part of your marriage. ⁣

However, that emotional high usually ends at the year and a half mark. Emotions start to fade and a new normal seems to set in and you start to feel like roommates.⁣

When you reach this point, there is a different underlying issue for both men and women. For men, the problem is most likely feeing apathetic and unmotivated. Once men get a hold of something, they get comfortable and don’t fight anymore. ⁣

For women, the problem is most likely from being overwhelmed. Life starts to pull women in so many different ways from work to family to kids and in so many other areas. It’s hard for women to focus on their marriage when she has so many things going on.⁣

Action steps:⁣
The key thing to recognize is what your partner is dealing with and find a way to help them out. For men, pitch in every once and awhile. Ask her what she needs help with and follow through on what she asks you to do. ⁣

For women, find something he does well and praise him for it. Even if he only takes out the garbage, praise him for that and you will soon see how he will look for other things for you to praise him about.⁣

What are some other things you have found to make sure you don’t feel like roommates?
