Nothing is so painful as “helpful advice” given, with the intent of minimizing or diminishing a cry for help or to absolve oneself of responsibility for truly caring for another soul, by entering and trying to understand their pain. “Been there done that, you can too,” is heartless, when delivered without loving relational context. Every story matters.
